      How to overcome exam fear?
Exam fear is not a new thing. Many of us have it and is very common. In today's competitive environment stress has created an atmosphere of fear.Students don't want to take exams as the fear of failure has deeply rooted in their mindset. They feel alone and helpless .They don't know how to achieve the goal.During exam's time this fear reaches its peak. How this fear gets germinated in the soil of calmness and how it can be overcomed are the major questions .
Reasons for exam fear
(1)Overcare
We unnecessarily protect and guard our children. We don't give them chance to think and take decision independently. We always insert our decisions in their activities .These paralyse the system of their decision making and become the cause of fear.
(2)Lack of confidence
Not giving adequate time to study is also one of the reasons for fear .That creates lack of confidence and  causes fear.
(3)Giving much importance to exams
As exams approach we put pressure on children to study hard. They also think that examination is the main part of study if they fail everything will get lost. This type  of thinking causes fear.
(4)Do better than others
We expect the best from our children .We compare them with others and force them to score more marks .That also creates fear among children.
Exam fear can be overcomed  by following ways.
(1) Habits
Develop a habit of regular studies. Regularity in studies and self labour are very important to fight exam fear.
(2)Never pressure children during  exams
Don't put extra pressure on children when exams approach  .Request them to revise the already learnt portion. That develops their confidence and helps in defeating fear.
(3)Meditation
It really works .It brings positive energy into the body and increases the concentration of mind. That helps in defeating fear.
(4) Closeness to nature
Nature has the power to heal all types of problems .It rejuvenates each and every cell of the body and fill us with extra energy.
All these methods reduce the exam fear to a large extent.

                What is fear...???
Is fear really a common problem?Yes,absolutely correct. Almost everyone has it ,but its level varies from person to person. If anyone asks me about it my answer will be very simple and clear.
To me ,fear is a deep rooted thought, just a thought or a group of words which occupies the maximum volume of mind that means it does not allow any healthy thought to  come in.It captures the whole mind and stops the process of logical thinking.
In case of fear unreal images get created in the mind and keep on running all the time that result in secretion of different hormones cause increase in heartbeat, blood pressure and also speed up the breathing rate.It totally lacks reality. We can call it as a state of mind.
It is a habit or nature of an individual that gradually gets developed and we believe it as a sudden effect.
The reason of fear are many but the most important one is common belief .we don't want to know the fact of any happening. We just believe other words without investigating the fact and we also frame a pseudo result on the basis of others belief .
The only remedy to stay away from this problem is to remain positive always and to be confident in every decision.

Health and Depression

It is believed that health means physical, mental and a state absence of disease. Similarly, science also defines the word 'health' but it adds one more component to the previous one i.e physical, mental and social health.

Ayurveda ,the traditional Indian system of medicine explains this term in a different way. The components that it includes to define the word health are physical ( a balance of vata, pitta and kapha),mental, spiritual, soul and a state of total satisfaction.

But the question arises how the state of total satisfaction could be achieved?

Over desire, greediness, selfishness have engulfed the whole human race and declined the quality of life and also lead to depression, which is a common mental disorder prevalent in modern humans.

The cases of depression are increasing at an alarming rate in the whole world. In such circumstances it is very difficult to achieve the state of total satisfaction but also  not impossible.
The factors that are required to be focused in order to achieve the total satisfaction are

(a)Food - Healthy food keeps body and mind healthy .Oily and spicy food have adverse effects on the body and mind.Healthy food includes lots of green vegetables, fruits ,milk etc.

(b) Proper eating habits- We eat without the knowledge of calories, nutrients present, duration of digestion of food.We simply eat as per our taste .

(c)Sleep- Electronic gadgets have distracted our mind.We waste our time in unproductive work.We even don't take proper rest .So adequate sleep along with balanced diet is must to keep body and mind healthy.

(d) Breathing - It also plays an important role in maintaining body and mind .We should know proper breathing techniques ,so that body and brain should get sufficient amount of oxygen

(e) Closeness to nature -Almost ninety percent of us have neglected the importance of nature .We have forgotten the benefits of sunlight, fresh air, pure water etc.

(f) Society- Social activities of the working people have reduced to zero. People prefer to live in nuclear family to joint family. They don't want to participate in social activities like meeting people ,talking to elderly, discussing problems with friends and giving time to grand parents.

(g)Spirituality -Turning towards spirituality is also very important as it disconnects ourselves from outer world to inner power or soul

It is believed that active brain never suffers from the problem of depression .Generally, inactive brains have this problem. In case of depression the same element of thought keeps on moving in the brain that makes the brain inactive and slow .So to make it active change the thought from negative to positive. This can also be done by meditation .

In short ,I think depression will  remain no longer if we concentrate on above mentioned things.

How did I reach Shillong?

I have a strong passion for travelling and whenever I get a chance to visit a new destinations, may be a hill station, a snowcapped mountain or a seabeach, I never miss it. I always love to spend time in the lap of nature.

Last year by God's grace an offer to travel Shillong came my way. The tour came as a complete surprise. But the fact was that it was the outcome of our friends' joint efforts. One thing about it was crystal clear to me that the decision of tour was taken in haste ,was not properly planned.

It was the beginning of Summer. Outside, the weather was neither hot nor cold, just normal. I along with my friends arrived at the Kolkata airport in the morning around eight o'clock and after security clearance, we boarded a plane for Guwahati as it is the  nearest airport to Shillong.

The flight took off at scheduled time around 10 o'clock and landed at Guwahati airport after a gap of some forty five minutes.

As we stepped out of the airport, we felt a bit cool. Here ,the summer was not as normal as Kolkata and a dip in the temperature could be felt easily.

We hired a private car to get around Guwahati city and nearby places of historical and religious importance.

It ran a few kilometres on the straight road and then curves appeared.

The road bent continuously and we headed at a steady speed on the spiralling road which climbed up  the peak and also our first destination 'The Kamakhya  Temple' an important pilgrimage place for Hindus. We worshipped the goddess and returned to the place where our car had been parked.

Since morning, we had not eaten anything, almost on an empty stomach. Not a grain inside. At the same time we were also getting late as we had to reach Shillong before sunset. So, it was decided to have some food at the road side hotel.

Hardly had we covered a distance of twenty kilometers, when one of our friends told us to halt the car. He complained us of an acute pain in the stomach due to acidity.

The driver understood the problem and applied the brake. The car came to a stop near a small cottage. We all came out of it.

The driver without wasting a moment entered the cottage and brought a cot, a jug full of water and a hand made fan. My friend drank water and fell flat on the cot. We had no medicine of acidity to relive his pain and the hospital was also not present in the immediate vicinity. So, we all waited for his intense  pain to get reduce.

Gradually, after an hour, his pain declined and he agreed to move. At that time I glanced at my watch. The time was 8:30 pm, much after sunset .

The car again advanced towards Shillong in the pitch dark night and after a painful journey of four to five hrs, covering mountainous and spiralling roads we reached our main spot 'Shillong'.

Anyhow, the driver managed a room in the hotel which was also the cause of our worry, to reach before sunset.

Our journey to Shillong was pleasant barring some self created problems. No doubt we all enjoyed a lot.
